— Daily Journal Entry 029 —
First of all, I DO NOT want to scare anyone away from buying and selling on eBay. Most of my experiences have been overwhelmingly positive. But when you have taken a break from a particular practice for some time and finally try it again, you might tend to forget a few things. At least, that’s what happened to me. I forgot the simplest of things… Just checking the “Seller Feedback,” for one…
Check The Seller Feedback, Please…
That’s really the main thing you want to check before buying ANYTHING on eBay, or any other online selling platform…
I attempted to purchase a particular used acoustic guitar from an account that, had I looked, already had some questionable feedback remarks from previous buyers. Had I read these remarks before attempting to buy, I would have never tried making the purchase.
Something Seemed… Off…
I made the purchase, and then within the next 24 hrs., this person is contacting me OUTSIDE of eBAY to tell me, “I’m sorry but that guitar had just recently sold, but, I have another one you might be interested in for the same price.” Mind you, this guitar was not in an auction. I told him, “No, I would rather just have my money back.” Crickets………….. Eventually, we some back-and-forth discussion and he ultimately replied with, “You GO AHEAD and go report me. I’ll still be here….”
eBay Refunded Me
At the end of the day, I had to contact eBay to get my money back. I didn’t think this would be possible, but they DID get me a refund. I had to wait several days to give this person “a chance,” but none-the-less, they gave me a refund. eBay, Amazon, and most of the “Big Retailers” will eventually work with you if you have good evidence to provide on your behalf.
It took some time, but eventually I was UNABLE to find this person’s account on eBay. I hope that means they took him down. I left a pretty nasty, but well-deserved feedback response on his account to try and warn others.
