I Think Its Time To Get To Know My Camera

— Daily Journal Entry 030 —

I can’ t promise anything, but I think it’s time to dive in and learn a few things about filming videos. Sure, there’s the whole “What am going to talk about” question that must be dealt with first, but there’s also some basic film settings that I think I should better familiarize myself with. This would be beneficial, not only for making it easier to create the videos in the first place, but also potentially easier on the eyes (and ears) of the handful of people that might actually stick around and watch my future videos.

What is White Balance Anyway

It may take me awhile to master such aspects as white balance, manual adjustments for ISO, aperture and shutter speed, but I, at least, know those components DO exist and I should take heed sooner, or later for everyone’s benefit.

Shooting video in auto is NOT the end of the world (especially if you are using natural lighting), but it’s not always the best idea. And there’s a few of my past videos (not that I’ve created a lot yet) that could’ve used some extra preparation in my opinion.

Focus on the Content, Then the Camera

Of course, who cares if you are a master film making if your content suck$… I can watch a video with horrible production quality if I’m really interested in the subject matter, but you could create a video with the best production EVER, and if I don’t care for what’s being presented, or if the material is being presented in a way that I’m having a hard time following, then I’m out…

Note: These “Daily Journal Entries” are part of a mini blog within the main blog where I make every effort to publish a 250+ word post per day on top of the regular, longer posts. The idea is to just create a daily habit of publishing written content. And also, to try and become a better overall writer… We’ll see…
