— Daily Journal Entry 018 —
The Sigma is another one of my past guitars that I cannot believe I let go. It originally cost me about $250 (I think) over 35 years ago, and I only got, maybe $100 for it on eBay. This was back during a time when I thought I was going to get rid of ALL of my music gear. Not sure what I was thinking at the moment, but…
Maybe that’s just it, I wasn’t thinking. Unfortunately, that happens a lot more than I’d like to admit. At any rate, this guitar wasn’t my first guitar, but it was my first decent acoustic and (kind of) a classic now, being a sub model of Martin. It had small chip on the bone nut, small scratches in various places and a decent scratch on the back, but I still miss it…
It played extremely well despite the lower cost, but $250 then, would’ve been $500+ now. But, thinking back, it just played well period and was envied by a few fellow musicians at the time. I took this guitar with me everywhere and it has seen lots of (unfortunate) abuse over the years. I’ve used it on old four track cassette recordings. I eventually purchased a hard shell case for it because I cared for it so much (I don’t always buy a hard shell case for guitars that cost about the same price as the case – not always).
Well, at least I have a picture or two of it for whenever I want to get depressed thinking about the past. It’s funny how we can sometimes cherish the cheaper stuff due to the memories attached. And because the “cheaper stuff” from long ago was sometimes better than the new stuff of today… Sometimes…

Note: These “Daily Journal Entries” are part of a mini blog within the main blog where I make every effort to publish a 250+ word post per day on top of the regular, longer posts. The idea is to just create a daily habit of publishing written content. And also, to try and become a better overall writer… We’ll see…
